Trafford as a destination

Trafford is a hugely popular visitor destination attracting around 32m visitors a year. We are able to boast a large number of visitor attractions which includes world class sporting destinations such as Old Trafford home to Manchester United Football Club, and the Emirates Stadium home to Lancashire County Cricket Ground. 

If it’s culture you are seeking, the Imperial War Museum North (IWMN) on Trafford Wharfside, Altrincham Garrick Theatre and The Waterside in Sale are the places to visit. Intu Trafford Centre as part of Trafford City is the ultimate destination for those looking to shop till they drop, or meet visitor’s retail and leisure needs. The complimentary green space offer of Dunham Massey is perfect to ensure visitors gain the all-round experience when visiting Trafford. You can even walk on the famous cobbles of Coronation Street.

Trafford’s four vibrant Town Centres of AltrinchamSaleStretford, and Urmston all provide a fantastic town centre offer as destinations for shopping, leisure, food and drink, socialising and staying overnight. Altrincham in particular is home to the internationally renowned Market Hall which has seen a surge in the number of visitors from outside of the borough.

Highlighting the natural beauty and countryside in Trafford, Sale Water Park includes an incredible 52-acre lake which is also the site of the Broad Ees Dole wildlife refuge, a local nature reserve which provides a home for migratory birds.

The Strategy recognises the importance of culture, heritage and creativity to the vibrancy, distinctiveness and attractiveness of our places. The Strategy defines what is meant by ‘culture’, sets a Vision, identifies what the challenges and opportunities there are around culture, cross cutting themes and what the objectives and priorities there are moving forward.

Trafford is tremendously accessible with links to the motorways, rail and Metrolink networks, canals, and with Manchester Airport just minutes away providing access to international markets, you really don’t have any excuse for not coming to visit us. In addition, the Metrolink extension into Trafford Park, due for completion in 2020, means that you will be able to access all of Trafford’s leisure, cultural and sporting attractions.
